Katie’s journey in the hairstyling industry began at 22 after leaving the fashion industry. She pursued her education at Niagara College, Canada, where she immediately fell in love with the art of hairstyling. Her passion for blonding and corrective colour became the cornerstone of her career. Early on, Katie was given the opportunity to work as a colour educator for a leading company, which deepened her love for education and expertise in colour theory and chemistry.

 

Entering the industry during the rise of balayage and extreme blonding trends, Katie quickly honed her skills and excelled as a stylist, earning recognition early in her career. She was ranked among Canada’s Top Five New Hairstylists, and her drive for excellence has continued ever since. Her advanced education includes training from the Vidal Sassoon Academy, 901 Academy in West Hollywood, California, Lo Wheeler Davis, I AM BOHO BLONDE, Hair By Lexi, Chris Appleton, and more. Katie’s keen eye for detail and passion for perfecting blondes have become her signature.

 

In March 2019, Katie opened Katie Elizabeth Salon (KES) in Thorold, Ontario, envisioning a fresh, inclusive salon environment with a California-inspired twist. The salon quickly gained a reputation for offering top-tier services in a comfortable, friendly, and professional atmosphere. Today, KES is located in St. Catharines, Niagara, on Fourth Avenue, boasting a 2000 square-foot space with over 16 employees and plans to expand to 20.

 

Katie takes pride in helping her clients achieve their hair goals, sourcing the highest quality products and services to ensure exceptional results. The salon has modernized its approach to pricing and service offerings, making it easier for clients to understand and access premium hair services.

 

Beyond running a successful salon, Katie offers Cool GRL Blonding Classes and educational sessions for aspiring stylists. She is committed to giving back to the hair community, mentoring over 10 apprentices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. Katie works closely with post graduates from Niagara College and CAPPA, creating opportunities for her team to work with major international brands and participate in business development activities, including travel.

 

Katie’s entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond her salon. She is actively involved in planning branding expansions, creating new merchandise for the Cool GRL Brand, and envisioning future projects that will continue to innovate and elevate the industry. Her dedication to her business and her community has made KES a top trendy salon that welcomes everyone.

 

In addition to her work in the salon, Katie and her salon team are proud to partner with Gillian’s Place, a local charity dedicated to protecting women from domestic violence. Through this partnership, they are committed to raising both money and awareness for this crucial cause.

 

When she’s not at the salon, Katie enjoys spending time with her son, Campbell, and her loved ones. As a mother and a business owner, Katie’s passion is driven by the desire to bring something new to Niagara, and she has exciting plans for the future.
